Smoke Alarm Installation in Perth

Smoke detectors and alarms in buildings are invaluable for providing early warning of fire and giving occupants enough time to try to extinguish the fire or to escape if the fire is out of control. In Western Australia, it’s the law to have at least one, and preferably more, hard wired smoke detector alarms.

Dr Sparky Electrical can professionally install and maintain hard wired smoke alarms and industrial fire alarms in residential and commercial premises.

TWO TYPES OF SMOKE ALARMS

There are two types of smoke alarms available for installation: ionisation smoke alarms and photoelectric. It’s been found that a hard-wired photoelectric smoke alarm is generally the better choice because it can detect smoke and fires early enough for the occupants to take action.

Ionisation smoke alarms detect invisible particles of combustion by having two electrically charged plates that ionise the air between them, causing a current. When smoke disrupts the current, the alarm is activated.

Photoelectric smoke alarms detect visible particles of combustion by ‘seeing’ them, and they’re less likely to go off when you burn something in the kitchen.

There is now a dual sensor smoke alarm that combines the best features of these two smoke alarms for added protection in instances of fire.

Smoke alarms and fire alarms must be installed in the right places for them to work with maximum efficiency. They should also be tested every month and serviced every year.
